Cevdet Erek’s “Bergama Stereo Bergama”, part of Bergama Theatre Festival (2021), is the new iteration of a series of sounding architectural installations that takes the Great Altar of Pergamon as its main reference point. For the first time, the work brings together and rearranges the remains of the altar that were left behind, along with the main remains.

The original version “Bergama Stereo” was first presented in Germany at Turbinenhalle as part of the Ruhrtriennale in Bochum (2019) and then in the historical hall of Hamburger Bahnhof Museum in Berlin (2019 – 2020). 

It reinterpreted the historically attributed function, form and the ongoing reception of the Great Altar of Pergamon. The work was reinterpreted and produced for the gallery space of Arter in Istanbul in 2020 and turned into a new version called “Bergama Stereotip”.

The first experimentation of this new version, which is planned to expand long-term, aims to draw attention to the existing condition of Great Altar’s remains and to contribute to the discussion of the alternative ways of its display.

Bergama Tiyatro Festivali (2021) kapsamında yer alan Cevdet Erek’in “Bergama Stereo Bergama” adlı çalışması, kendisine çıkış noktası olarak Büyük Bergama Sunağı’nı alan sesli mimari yerleştirmeler serisinden geride kalan bazı parçaların, sunağın Pergamon Antik Kenti’nde bulunan kalıntıları ile ilk kez bir araya gelerek yeniden düzenlenmesi ile oluşuyor.

Almanya’nın Bochum şehrindeki Turbinenhalle’de  Ruhrtriennale kapsamında ilk kez 2019 yılında sergilenen ve aynı yıl Berlin’deki Hamburger Bahnhof Müzesi’nde “Görsel Sanatçıların Müzik İşleri” serisi kapsamında 5 ay boyunca gösterilen “Bergama Stereo” başlıklı ilk versiyon, Büyük Bergama Sunağı’nın tarihsel ve siyasi rolünün, biçiminin ve farklı dönemlerdeki algılanış şekillerinin bir yorumunu sunmaktaydı. 

Eser 2020 yılında, İstanbul’da Arter’deki galeri mekânı için yeniden yorumlanarak üretildi ve “Bergama Stereotip” adlı yeni bir versiyona dönüştü. Uzun bir zaman aralığına yayılması planlanan bu yeni  versiyonun ilk denemesi, Pergamon Antik Kenti’nde bulunan Büyük Bergama Sunağı’nın kalıntılarının mevcut haline dikkat çekmeyi ve gelecekteki alternatif sergileme şekillerinin tartışılmasına katkı sunmayı da amaçlıyor.
